Parallel and Perpendicular Magic
Follow a great rule and always line up items parallel and perpendicular to the edges of the furniture (magazines, books, remote controls).
Somehow, the mathematical straightness of the lines soothes the eye and suddenly the items left out look curated and deliberate. And a viewer feels calm =) For example, a magazine, a book, and a cell phone scattered on the table can be quickly tidied by stacking them with the largest item on the bottom (magazine), followed by the book, and topped with the phone; line that pile up with the edge of the table.
