Decluttering journey

4 methods to try

 

Order in the house is: “a place for everything and everything in its place”.

Decluttering your home is the first step towards the order.

 

     It is not always easy to do this, many things cause nice memories, often wesimply feel “sorry” to get rid of some things, because money was spent on them.

    But if something is not used, it means that it has outlived its usefulness, in this case it makessense to feel “sorry” only for:

- your personal space, which is now occupied by these things and

- the time that is spent on futile attempts to put things in order but could be used for pleasant moments and deeds.

 

Here are 4 methods of decluttering, choose one of them or several at once and just try how they will work for you personally.

 

 

 

1) Declutter by Category - Marie Kondo

Divide things into categories: 1-Clothes, 2-Books, 3-Documents, 4-Miscellaneous, 5-Sentiments

And in order, starting with clothes, declutter each category, choosing only what you really want to keep for yourself, what you use, which brings you joy.

 

(!) First, collect all items from one category in one room. This is very effective, because only by laying out everything that we have in front of us we can estimate the real amount of our things.

 

While making a decision to throw something away or not, the main thing is not to start carefully examining this thing, searching for the explanations why you should not do it.

2) "Boogie of 27 shots" - Marla Cilley

During life, unnecessary things, of course, will accumulate again. We advise you to choose a "Box on hold" for yourself - a basket or a box where you will put things that are clearly no longer needed, but you have not yet decided what to do with them.

 

And once a month or every 3-6 months, distribute these things (throw away, give away ...)

 

 

For sure, the universal method does not exist, the only thing is a practice in the wish to live an ordered and breathing life.

 

Make the first step!

If it is difficult for you to part with things, you often doubt

 

Try to live with fewer things without throwing anything away.

 

You need to put everything that is superfluous in a box, glue it and take it to the basement - to arrange a trial period for these things. After a while, you will understand what you cannot live without, and this can still be returned. But most of the things will remain in the box, doubts about their need will completely disappear and it will be easy to give them to someone or throw them away.

The main thing is to clearly define the period of the experiment by writing it on the box and at the end of the period get rid of things, and not send it back to the garage, basement or balcony :)

 

 

 

 

4)  Box "on hold"

(for people who find it difficult to systematically approach the order)

 

Take a bag or a box, set a timer for 15 minutes and during this time find 27 unnecessary/unused things, throughout the apartment completely haphazardly, without hesitation, the main thing here is speed. And repeat it every day, until only the necessary things are in the house :)

 

Both methods involve immediate “ruthless” disposal of things so that we don't return them to the shelves. - THIS IS A SERIOUS OBSTACLE FOR MANY!
